My “Happy Healthy” Philosophy
I believe true health is both physical health and mental health, you can’t sustainably have one without the other. These pillars of health support the other & it’s a great way to determine if a health goal is right for you. Does it support BOTH my mental & physical health?
E.g. If you fuel & move your body to support your mental health, in turn your physical health will benefit.
Holistic
I always start with the basics:
• Nourishing food as fuel for a thriving body, focussed mind and balanced hormones.
• Hydration for a well functioning system.
• Movement for a strong, able body that functions well and supports your lifestyle.
• Sleep & rest for restoration, repair and recharge.
• Stress & anxiety management.
I focus on these components before any dietary supplements are ever considered.
There is a huge opportunity to gain the essential vitamins and minerals for optimal function through basic nutrition and self care. A reliance of supplements to solve our aliments isn’t always an effective solution.
Honour
Value yourself enough to maintain your health and wellbeing. You are worth investing in. It makes you a better parent, partner, friend and colleague. Make time, prioritise good habits and view these actions not as selfish or a luxury but as necessary preventative physical and mental health measures. If you don’t have time for your health, then nothing else is worth the effort.
Once good habits are established, looking after your health shouldn’t feel difficult or like a burden. It should feel good, be free from calorie counting and “diet’ alternatives to your favourite foods that leave you feeling like you are missing out.
Happy
Happiness can change the way you look at life. If a restrictive diet or excessive training are causing, stress & unhappiness, any results just aren’t worth it. A healthy lifestyle should always support happiness, NOT deduct from it.
Understand your emotions and work on your mental health. Using crutches like alcohol, comfort foods etc only exacerbate the underlying issues. Use good nutrition to fuel hormone production, stable moods and clear thinking.
Movement should be enjoyable and help relieve stress and anxiety symptoms. If you dread working out swap it for something that connects you to others and leaves you feeling good. E.g walking with a friend, kicking a ball around with the kids.
