So... are we actually not ready?
Or have we simply been waiting for confidence that only comes after we've started?
The Ready Test
Before you close this page, spend ten minutes answering these questions.
Not perfectly.
Honestly.
1. Make it matter.
Ask yourself...
Why do I want to become healthier?
Then keep asking...
Why?
Until you can't go any deeper.
For example...
I want to lose weight.
Why?
So I have more energy.
Why?
Because I'm exhausted after work.
Why?
Because I hate feeling like I have nothing left to give my family.
Now we're no longer talking about weight.
We're talking about life.
Now answer these.
If nothing changes over the next five years...
How will I feel?
What might I miss out on?
What am I no longer willing to accept?
Now flip it.
If I consistently looked after my health over the next five years...
What could I do that feels difficult today?
How might I feel physically?
Mentally?
What kind of person could I become?
A meaningful reason is far more powerful than a number on the scales.
2. Build confidence.
Forget the big goal.
What's one thing you're almost certain you could do this week?
Not something impressive.
Something repeatable.
Examples:
☐ Eat breakfast every day.
☐ Walk for ten minutes after dinner.
☐ Add protein to breakfast.
☐ Pack tomorrow's lunch tonight.
☐ Drink another bottle of water.
☐ Do one Pilates class.
☐ Eat one extra serve of vegetables today.
Choose something that makes you think...
"Yeah... I could absolutely do that."
Not...
"I'll try."
Confidence grows from success.
Success grows from achievable promises.
3. Remove one obstacle.
What's most likely to get in the way?
Be honest.
"I'm too tired."
"I forget."
"The kids."
"Work."
"I'll run out of time."
Now solve it before it happens.
Could you...
Put your walking shoes by the door?
Prepare breakfast tonight?
Set a reminder?
Ask your partner for twenty minutes?
Buy frozen vegetables instead of fresh?
Success rarely comes from trying harder.
It usually comes from making healthy choices easier.
4. Find your support.
Who could encourage you?
Who could check in?
Who could walk with you?
Who could remind you why you started?
Write their name down.
We aren't designed to do hard things alone.
Sometimes we just need to borrow someone else's confidence until we've built our own.
5. Start before you feel ready.
This is the hardest step.
Because we're all waiting.
Waiting for Monday.
Waiting until work settles down.
Waiting until the kids get older.
Waiting until life is less busy.
Waiting until confidence arrives.
Here's your challenge.
Finish this sentence.
Today I'm ready enough to...
Not forever.
Just today.
One action.
One promise.
One step.
Maybe we're already ready.
Maybe we've just been waiting to feel confident first.
But confidence has never been the entry ticket.
It's the reward.
Every promise we keep to ourselves becomes another piece of evidence.
Evidence becomes confidence.
Confidence makes the next step feel easier.
We don't become confident and then take action.
We take action, and confidence quietly follows us home.
So don't wait until you believe in yourself completely.
Take one small step.
Then another.
Let confidence catch up.
Because readiness isn't a feeling.
It's something we build.
One meaningful reason.
One small promise.
One kept commitment at a time.
Ready to stop waiting?
Confidence is waiting on the other side of the first step.
If you've spent years waiting for the "right time" to prioritise your health, you're not alone.
One of the biggest things we work on together in my coaching isn't motivation—it's helping you uncover a reason that genuinely matters and building the confidence that comes from small, consistent wins.
Together we'll create a plan that fits your life, feels achievable and helps you build habits that last.
Because you don't need to feel 100% ready before you begin.
You just need to be ready enough to take the first step.
