What If We've Been Measuring Health All Wrong?

Healthy isn't about being attractive. It's about becoming more capable.

Somewhere along the way, we started treating health like a beauty contest.

We congratulate people for losing weight before we know whether they're actually healthier.

We assume someone with visible abs must be fit.

We compliment people for getting "skinny."

We spend hours trying to look healthy, instead of asking whether we're actually becoming healthier.

But what if we've been measuring the wrong things all along?

Don't get me wrong...

I think looking healthy is attractive.

Strength is attractive.

Confidence is attractive.

Standing tall, moving well and smiling because you genuinely feel good in your own skin—that's attractive.

But those things are usually the result of good health.

They're not the definition of it.

Real health isn't measured by how your body looks.

It's measured by how well your body serves you.

Can your heart carry you through a long walk?

Can your muscles help you lift your kids... or one day, your grandkids?

Are your bones strong enough to keep you independent as you age?

Can your mind stay sharp and curious?

Do you have the energy to say "yes" to the things you love?

Those are the questions I think we should be asking.

Because one day...

Nobody will care what size jeans you wore.

But you'll care whether your body still allows you to travel, dance, hike, garden, play with the grandkids, carry your shopping and enjoy your independence.

That's the kind of healthy I'm interested in.

And I have a feeling...

That's the kind of healthy you're looking for too.

Your Body Isn't An Ornament

Somewhere along the way we started believing our body was something to be looked at.

Judged.

Compared.

Criticised.

Shrunk.

But your body isn't an ornament.

It's not here to decorate the room.

It's the vehicle that carries you through your entire life.

It carries you through careers.

Pregnancies.

Parenthood.

Heartbreak.

Holidays.

Adventures.

Laughter.

Growing older.

It deserves so much more than spending its life being criticised in the mirror.

Maybe it's time we stopped asking,

"How does my body look?"

and started asking,

"How well is my body looking after me?"

Healthy isn't measured by how your body looks. It's measured by how well your body carries you through life.

The Health Markers That Actually Matter

If your goal is to enjoy a long, energetic and independent life, there are much better things to focus on than the number on the scales.

Muscle

Muscle isn't just about looking toned.

It's one of the greatest predictors of healthy ageing.

It helps regulate blood sugar.

Supports your metabolism.

Protects your joints.

Reduces your risk of falls.

Keeps everyday tasks easy.

Every kilogram of muscle you build today is an investment in your future independence.

Bone Density

From our thirties onwards, we slowly begin losing bone density.

Strength training, good nutrition and adequate protein help slow that decline.

Strong bones mean fewer fractures.

More confidence.

More independence.

And a better quality of life as you age.

Cardiovascular Fitness

Your heart is arguably the hardest-working muscle in your body.

The fitter it is, the easier everyday life becomes.

Walking upstairs.

Playing with kids.

Travelling.

Gardening.

Walking the dog.

None of these should leave you exhausted.

Looking after your heart means looking after your future.

Brain Health

Your brain needs looking after too.

Movement.

Nutritious food.

Good sleep.

Learning new things.

Social connection.

These don't just improve your mood today.

They're some of the best investments you can make in keeping your brain healthy as you age.

Mental Wellbeing

This might be the most overlooked health marker of all.

Because what good is living to ninety if you're constantly anxious, exhausted or unhappy?

Real health includes:

Feeling calm.

Feeling connected.

Laughing.

Sleeping well.

Managing stress.

Having purpose.

Enjoying life.

Health isn't simply about adding years to your life.

It's about adding life to your years.

Here's The Best Part...

All of these things work together.

When you build muscle...

...your metabolism improves.

When you exercise...

...your heart becomes stronger.

When you sleep well...

...your brain functions better.

When you manage stress...

...healthy choices become easier.

When you eat nourishing food...

...your entire body benefits.

You don't have to chase ten different goals.

One healthy habit creates another.

That's why I focus on sustainable health—not perfection.

Looking Good Is A Wonderful Side Effect

Will becoming healthier change your appearance?

Probably.

You'll likely stand taller.

Move more confidently.

Smile more.

Feel stronger.

Your skin may look healthier.

Your clothes might fit differently.

People might even tell you that you're glowing.

That's wonderful.

Enjoy it.

But don't mistake the side effect for the goal.

The goal is waking up every day with a body and mind that allow you to fully participate in your life.

That's something no mirror can measure.

Imagine Yourself Twenty Years From Now

Your future self won't be thanking you because you once had visible abs.

She'll be thanking you because...

You can still carry heavy shopping.

You can still lift the grandkids.

You can still hike that trail.

You can still get down onto the floor—and back up again.

You can still travel confidently.

You still have your independence.

You still have your curiosity.

You still have your energy.

That's what you're really working towards.

Not a dress size.

Not someone else's definition of attractive.

You're building a body that will keep showing up for you every single day.

Now that's a goal worth chasing.

The H for Health Philosophy

You'll never hear me tell you to chase perfection.

You'll never hear me tell you that your value is measured by your appearance.

Around here, we don't build smaller women.

We build stronger women.

Women who are confident enough to back themselves.

Strong enough to carry the shopping.

Fit enough to keep up with the kids.

Resilient enough to handle life's challenges.

Healthy enough to enjoy every stage of life.

Because healthy isn't about becoming more attractive.

It's about becoming more capable.

And if becoming healthier means you stand a little taller...

Smile a little more...

Feel a little more confident...

Well...

I think that's pretty attractive too.

Start TODAY By...

Instead of asking:

"How do I look?"

Ask yourself:

"What am I doing today that my 70-year-old self will thank me for?"

Maybe it's:

✔ Going for a walk.

✔ Lifting some weights.

✔ Eating a nourishing meal.

✔ Going to bed a little earlier.

✔ Taking five minutes to breathe.

Those things probably won't change your appearance overnight.

But they'll slowly build something far more valuable.

A body that keeps saying yes to life.
